For any day of the year it may be possible that a feast designated in the Common of the Time can occur coincident with a feast designated in the Proper of the Saints. The Church has provided instructions for how the Divine Office, which includes the Mass, is to be followed and prayed. Here questions about "What happens when the Feast of Saint Joseph occurs during Holy Week?" or "What is done if the Feast of Assumption falls on a Sunday?" can be easily answered. In the first example, the Feastr of Saint Joseph (March 19th), being a 1st Classs Feast of the Universal Church, would be tracked on the top line of the matrix below until met with the column titled "and 1st class feria." The code at the intersection, "7", is read from the instruction table "Office of 2nd, transfer of 1st." This means that the liturgy for the day would be for the 1st class feria (as are all the days of Holy Week), and the celebration of the feast of St. Joseph would be transferred to the first available day following Low Sunday (the ferias in Easter Week also being 1st Class and priviledged).
